Research & Collections Assistant, Vertebrate Paleontology
Steve is a preparator of vertebrate fossils, meaning he plans expeditions to discover and collect vertebrate fossils and as much of the associated geologic data as possible from the surrounding rock outcrops. After they are shipped back to the museum, he then “prepares” them, or removes the rock matrix to reveal the fossil elements needed for scientific for study. Then he stabilizes and conserves the fossils and creates custom archival housings for long-term storage in our collections. He often molds and casts our fossils for other institutions as well as to put on display.
