Stories from the Land of the Tlingit
Join us to celebrate Native American Heritage Day with members of the Native American Łingít tribe.
Father and son, Kaa tlaax (Owen James) and Xéetlieesh (Lyle James) will share traditional Łingít stories and wisdom in a high energy program that will include singing, drumming and storytelling. Xéetlieesh, of the Kaagwaantaan Clan, is a Łingít language instructor, orator, and co-leader of the renowned dance group, Wooshjieen. Kaa tlaax, a Kiks.adi Elder, was one of three traditional carvers who crafted the Huna Tribal House, the first traditional longhouse dedicated in a National Park. Family members Dáx Kílatch (Kolene James) and Kuxwudóoya (Leah Moss) will support them with Łingít drumming.
