Webinar: Did Humans Cause Pleistocene Megafaunal Extinctions?

Archived Webinar

The Zoom webinar with Paleontologist Advait Jukar aired February 18, 2021, as part of the "HOT (Human Origins Today) Topic" series. Watch a recording in the player above.

Description

We know that animal species are going extinct at a rapid pace today, and that humans are one of the causal factors. But what about in the past? Did early modern humans hunt large, land-dwelling megafauna to extinction as they migrated to new continents, or is climate change to blame instead? Dr. Advait Jukar, a paleontologist and postdoctoral associate at Yale University, shares his knowledge and his recently published research on this topic focused on the Indian Subcontinent.

Moderator: Briana Pobiner, paleoanthropologist and educator at Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History.
